Background:

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 provides a unique opportunity to expand Broadband infrastructure in the United States.  The US Congress has appropriated $7.2 billion for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and Rural Utility Service (RUS) to provide grants and loans to eligible entities for the development and expansion of broadband services to unserved and underserved areas.

NTIA and RUS have solicited public comments to determine the most effective investments needed to expand the reach of Broadband across the United States.  These public comments conclude that Broadband services are obstructed by the lack of middle-mile infrastructure needed to connect the end user to the Internet backbone.  Today, CNI provides essential fiber backhaul access in Tier 1 - Tier 4 markets.  We offer unique access to rural fiber--making us an excellent partner for extending high-capacity broadband throughout Ohio and the Midwest.
